The firm stated that it had also been signed up as a sponsor for the Games after securing the power deal from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
Aggreko's contract follows its work on the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, which saw the group deliver 259 generators and chillers, 525 kilometres of cable and more than 1,200 distribution panels to 11 football sites. Aggreko also played a key role at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Under the terms of the partnership deal with the London 2012 Games, the company will provide more than 1,000 kilometres of cable equipment to power competition venue lighting and camera equipment across 39 sites.
“We normally play away from home in places such as Beijing, Vancouver and South Africa,” said Aggreko chief executive Rupert Soames. “It is therefore enormously exciting to have the opportunity to perform in front of our home crowd".
Last night, the snow-covered Olympic Stadium in London sparkled under floodlights for the first time as UK Prime Minister David Cameron hit the button for the big switch-on which shone a megawatt of light on to the showpiece venue. It was the first time that all 532 bulbs had been lit together.
