Thomas Bach re-elected German Olympics Chief

Thomas Bach, the 1976 Olympic fencing gold medallist, has been re-elected as President of the German Olympic Sport Confederation (DOSB) until 2014.

The DOSB was created in 2006 with the merger of the former National Olympic Committee with the Deutscher Sportbund, which represents sports clubs around the country with 27.5 million members.

Bach, who was the only candidate, polled 92 per cent of the votes, receiving 360 out of a total 392. Twenty voted no and 12 people abstained.

"I am very happy with the result, because it expresses the confidence of the General Assembly and demonstrates the unity of the DOSB," said Bach.

Walter Schneeloch was re-elected as vice-president of the DOSB while Christa Thiel, the President of the German Swimming Federation, was elected as vice-president of competitive sports.
