Penske Racing bags Meijer contract

US Midwest retail chain Meijer has signed a sponsorship deal with the IndyCar series team Penske Racing starting from next year.

Meijer operates almost 200 stores and is headquartered in Michigan, which is also the home state of Team Penske.

“Meijer is a terrific company and we are proud to represent such a premiere organization,” said team owner Roger Penske. “We are excited to develop this new relationship and we believe Meijer will be a key partner for Team Penske, beginning in 2011.”

“Meijer is thrilled to work with Team Penske, the most successful team in the history of IndyCar racing,” added Meijer co-chairman and CEO Hank Meijer. “We hope to be a part of many race wins and championships with [drivers] Will [Power], Helio [Castroneves] and Ryan [Briscoe] and we know they and the Penske team will be great ambassadors for Meijer and all of our associates.”

Coca-Cola will play an integrated role in the sponsorship as a key supplier to the retail chain and a partner of the team.
