The international federation has already told British Basketball that a legacy for the sport in the UK must be assured if Great Britain is to be given a place in the basketball competition at the London Games.
“We hope the entire basketball community in the UK will be excited by the prospect of hosting a major sporting event on this scale and look forward to their involvement,” British Basketball performance director Chris Spice was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“Along with the World Championships and Olympic Games this event ranks as one of the big three of international basketball and would attract a great many visitors along with vastly increasing the profile of the sport in Britain,” added England Basketball chief executive Keith Mair.
Arenas in London (O2), Liverpool (Echo), Manchester (MEN) and Glasgow (Commonwealth) would form part of a UK bid.
