Scottish referees want full backing by clubs today

Scottish referees have demanded that all 42 clubs in the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League back the officials' integrity otherwise this weekend's strike will go ahead.

The Scotsman newspaper understands the Scottish Senior Football Referee’s Association set a deadline of midday today for the clubs to respond.

The Scottish Football Association (SFA), which has an agreement to provide referees to the country’s professional leagues, said it had contingency plans to bring in match officials from abroad.

However, referees from Iceland, Norway and Wales rejected approaches from the SFA, while Irish officials appear to still be an option. UEFA described the crisis as “a purely domestic matter” and said it would not intervene.
