Davis Cup final could be brought forward after ATP season cut

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is considering moving the Davis Cup finals earlier in the year after the men’s ATP World Tour announced it will cut its season by two weeks from 2012.

The one-week long ATP World Tour Finals in London will start on November 5 and this year’s Davis Cup finals are scheduled for December 3 to 5.

The ITF’s Davis Cup committee will address the issue at a meeting ahead of the finals on December 2 in Belgrade.

“It’s really up to the ITF to decide what they want to do,” said ATP World Tour executive chairman and president Adam Helfant. “It seems like a sensible thing to do, however.”

The ITF could also bring forward the finals of the Fed Cup, the women’s version of the Davis Cup, held on November 6 and 7 this year, to avoid clashes with men’s events.
