Chevrolet returns to IndyCar series

Engine manufacturer Chevrolet is returning to the IndyCar motor racing series to challenge the monopoly of Honda from 2012 onwards.

The Japanese manufacturer has been the exclusive engine supplier since 2005, when Chevrolet and Toyota left the series.

Honda officials welcomed the return of Chevrolet as it is believed that competition between manufacturers will give IndyCar a promotional boost.

Chevrolet’s comeback is part of the series’ switch to new chassis and engine configuration in the 2012 season.

A European manufacturer is also expected to participate in a re-vamped IndyCar.
