Bonus launched to promote Grand National lead-up

UK’s Jockey Club Racecourses and betting company the Tote have unveiled a bonus scheme around the John Smith’s Grand National, of which totesport is the official betting partner.

A £250,000 bonus, called totesport Road to Aintree, will be awarded next year if the same horse wins the totesport Classic Chase at Warwick, the totesport.com Grand National Trial at Haydock and the Grand National at Aintree.

“The bonus initiative is another example of our strong partnership with Jockey Club Racecourses and connections now have a real incentive to create history by winning both the Classic Chase and Grand National Trial en route to a crack at the big one at Aintree in April,” said totepool Director of Racecourse Business, Jason Brautigam.

“The Road to Aintree bonus creates an even stronger incentive to race at Warwick, Haydock Park and Aintree,” added Chief Operating Officer for Jockey Club Racecourses, Paul Fisher. “Hopefully we’ll see a really good head of steam building up to the John Smith's Grand National.”

The windfall will be divided between the owner (60 per cent), trainer (20 per cent), jockey (10 per cent) and stable staff in the winning yard (10 per cent). If either Warwick or Haydock is abandoned, £100,000 will still be offered to the connection that manages to win either the Classic Chase or the Grand National Trial and, then, triumph at Aintree.

Prize money for this year’s Grand National winners was £521,052.
