German clubs get a share of World Cup profits

The 36 clubs in Germany’s top two divisions are set to receive a share of the profits earned by the country’s football association at this year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The German league association is entitled to half of any World Cup surplus made by the Deutscher Fussball-Bund, the country’s FA.

“The clubs of the league association made a major contribution to the success of the German national team in South Africa. It’s thus only fair that they also benefit from the financial surplus,” said league president Dr. Reinhard Rauball.

The clubs will be paid €1.927 million, with 50 per cent of this amount being shared equally and the other half allocated proportionally according to the number of players each side had on international duty.

Germany finished third at the World Cup, having lost to eventual champions Spain in the semi-final.
