Breeders’ Cup sets attendance record

This year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs, Kentucky has set attendance and ticket sales records for the prestigious horse racing event.

Combined attendances for the two days of racing (Friday and Saturday) were up 18.5 per cent on the previous record set last year to 114,353.

Ticket sales exceeded $10 million beating the all-time mark of $6.9 million from the 2006 event.

The two-day common pool was $163,619,784, a 13-per-cent increase on the amount bet last year.

On-track handle also rose on both days compared to 2009 – with Saturday boasting a 16-per-cent growth to $14,476,867.
