FIA raises doubts over China and India for 2011 F1 season

The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), motor sport’s governing body, ratified a record 20-race 2011 calendar yesterday but doubts linger over the included Chinese and Indian grands prix

The FIA said the two races were included only subject to homologation, or approval, of the circuits

"The homologation licence for the Shanghai International Circuit has expired and before a new licence can be issued by the FIA some work on the track is required, with particular regards to the current drainage system and the quality of the track surface," said an FIA spokeswoman.

A new track is under construction near New Delhi where the Indian grand prix is due to make its debut on October 30. China's Shanghai circuit has hosted seven Formula One races but a number of upgrades are understood to be needed for it to stay on the championship schedule.

The 2011 Formula One season will begin in Bahrain on March 13, and Brazil will move back to its season finale slot on November 27.
