Castrol becomes cricket’s official performance partner

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Castrol announced a five-year agreement yesterday that will see the lubricant company become the official performance partner of the sport’s world governing body.

Under the deal Castrol will have a worldwide rights package from 2010 until 2015, a period that includes the Cricket World Cups in 2011 and 2015. The company will also introduce its Castrol Index – a performance rating system updated in real-time, originally created for football - to the stadium audience of ICC’s premier cricket events.

“Cricket is a sport that is passionately followed across many parts of the world. While no other game touches the hearts and minds in the Asian sub-continent as cricket does, the game is also very popular in many other important Castrol markets like Australasia, South Africa and the UK,” said Naveen Kshatriya, Castrol’s Regional Vice President of Asia-Pacific.

“Castrol products and services are all about delivering high performance and this association will further strengthen the relationship which we enjoy with all our customers and consumers,” he added. “We intend leveraging this association to help bring into our fold millions of new consumers in the coming years.”

The new agreement adds cricket to a Castrol sports sponsorship portfolio that already includes Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Castrol was also an official sponsor of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
