F1 officials approve South Korea track

The inaugural Korean GP has been confirmed for October 24 as Formula One officials finished an inspection of the new track and gave their approval for the race.

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone raised doubts last month over the viability of the GP after a September 21 inspection had been cancelled due to severe construction delays.

However, FIA delegate Charlie Whiting finished the two-day inspection today, paying particular attention to the final layer of the track, and gave the go ahead.

New aerial photos also showed that a main grandstand, the pit and paddock areas are apparently completed.

Building work is still under way, though, with a number of sections of the circuit still looking like a construction site.
