Putnam Investments sponsors US ski and snowboarding in four-year deal

Putnam Investments, the Boston-based money management firm with around $120 billion in assets under its management, will sponsor the US Ski and Snowboarding teams for the next four seasons.

Under the deal Putnam will help support young American ski and snowboard athletes as they prepare for the next Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.

The announcement was made yesterday by Putnam President and CEO Robert L. Reynolds, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt and Olympic gold medal-winning skier Ted Ligety, who has been sponsored by Putnam for two seasons.

“It was an opportunistic chance for us to get involved with a program and a sport that represents the US but also has worldwide reach,” said Reynolds.

American skiers and snowboarders left this year’s Vancouver Winter Olympics with a record 21 medals, including six golds.
