Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Games’ organising committee, said tickets priced at 1,000 rupees ($22) and 5,000 rupees ($110) are sold-out and those costing 25,000 rupees ($555) would be sold-out by the end of yesterday.
The ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 3 will showcase 5,000 years of Indian culture and will include dance from across the country. The centrepiece of the event will involve a huge helium balloon which will float above the stadium.
Kalmadi also said the Games would be successful, despite blanket criticism of preparations, and added that the Games will act as a springboard for an Indian Olympic bid in the not-so-distant future.
