NBC to air only delayed coverage of Saturday’s Ryder Cup

US network NBC is only going to show delayed coverage of Saturday’s Ryder Cup golf action, from 8am to 6pm ET.

According to newspaper USA Today, the network expects to attract bigger audiences, assuming most the viewers do not go online to check results from across the Atlantic.

NBC coverage will then resume to live format on Sunday, the final day of competition.

The network was under the fire at the beginning of this year for its preference for highlights over live coverage for the Vancouver Winter Olympics in primetime, but high ratings proved the strategy was successful.

Pay-television broadcaster ESPN will show all three days of the Ryder Cup 2010 live, from 2.30am to 1pm, then re-air the action at a later time slot.
