Peter McLoughlin leaves St. Louis Blues to head Seattle Seahawks

National Football League (NFL) franchise Seattle Seahawks has appointed a new president in Peter McLoughlin, who has been chief executive officer at National Hockey League (NHL) team St. Louis Blues for the past four years.

McLoughlin will focus on the business side while general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll will report directly to owner Paul Allen on football matters. The new president will also head Major League Soccer (MLS) club Seattle Sounders, another of Allen’s sport properties.

“I’m here to be a great fan of both teams, to work hard, serve the fans, give back to the community and to help John and Pete and the Sounders have the resources to put championships in the Seattle community,” McLoughlin said.

“Peter is a bright, proven leader who believes as I do that the fans always come first and understands the importance of community,” Allen said in a statement. “He is experienced in all aspects of the business side of sports.”

McLoughlin replaces Tod Leiweke, who also managed Allen’s third sport property – the National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise Portland Trail Blazers – and left to become the CEO and a minority owner of NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
