Nigerian Olympic Committee elects Ndanusa with IOC consent

Former Nigeria Minister of Sport Sanni Ndanusa has been elected president of the country’s national Olympic committee (NOC) for the second time in a week, now with the recognition of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC had nullified Ndanusa’s first election on September 16 saying the vote had taken place without the “legitimate authorities of the NOC.”

Last night’s election was witnessed by Algerian IOC official Mustapha Berraf, who said he was satisfied with the result.

Ndanusa was the sole candidate after his potential opponents withdrew one after the other before the start of the vote, the last being the previous NOC president Habu Gumel.

Gumel decided not to run for re-election after striking a deal with current Minister of Sport Ibrahim Bio to work together with Ndanusa.
