Champions League teams guaranteed €7.2m

The 32 teams in this season’s Champions League teams will each receive a minimum of €7.2 million for taking part, European football's governing body UEFA said on Tuesday.

The figures are almost the same as last season, apart from small increases in the basic prize money for the semi-finalists and runners-up.

Teams going further than the group stages will receive €3 million for advancing to the round of 16, €3.3 million for reaching the quarter-finals and €4.2 million for a semi-final place. The winners will collect a further €9 million and the runners-up €5.6 million.

According to Reuters, last season a total €746.4 million was handed out among the Champions League participants. Last year’s winners Inter Milan received a total of €48.76 million, including €19.6 million from their share of TV money.
