The state-owned company, which is a lead partner of the Games, had suspended its payments under instructions by the government that no commission to marketing agencies should be paid for contributions by the public sector.
The organising committee parted company with Sports Marketing and Management, the agency it had appointed to attract sponsors, but was embroiled in another series of corruption allegations at the same time.
“We will give it (sponsorship money) to the sports and youth affairs ministry and it is up to them to carry forward,” said railway minister Mamata Banerjee. However, he noted that the launching of special trains to Agra, Jaipur and other touristic destinations during the Games will be “taken into account as part of the sponsorship amount”.
