Arsenal’s Kroenke approved as NFL Rams majority owner

Major Arsenal shareholder Stan Kroenke was yesterday approved by National Football League franchise owners as the new majority owner of the St. Louis Rams at a vote conducted in Atlanta.

Kroenke, who will become the seventh majority owner in the Rams' 73-year history, was already a minority shareholder and helped bring the Rams to St. Louis in 1995. Now he's set to assume control from Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, the children of deceased former owner Georgia Frontiere, who control 60 per cent of the team.

"Stan has been a familiar and respected figure in the National Football League for more than 15 years," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "He is a proven businessman and has experienced success in all of his sports franchises, as well as serving as a responsible community leader. We look forward to him continuing to uphold the goals and values of the NFL as he becomes the majority owner of the St. Louis Rams."

Kroenke also owns the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets and National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche. NFL rules prohibit cross-ownership of franchises in those leagues, a policy Kroenke has challenged, so his son may assume control of those clubs.
