Pakistani politicians call for PCB chairman to be removed

Pakistani cricket continues to lurch from one crisis to another. In the latest development, Reuters reports that Pakistani senators have called for the removal of Ijaz Butt as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after accusing him of insulting them through the media.

"The privileges committee has recommended to President Asif Zardari through the ministry of sports to dismiss Butt," committee head Tahir Mashadi told Reuters.

Butt appeared before the committee to answer charges that he had insulted members of the Senate standing committee on sports by saying they had no jurisdiction over him.

President Zardari, who is chief patron of the PCB, appointed Butt in October 2008. But the former test player has attracted criticism from various quarters for his handling of cricket affairs.
