FIFA, which strongly objects to any political interference in football, threatened to ban Sudan from international competitions after the government said Football Association president Kamal Shaddad, and several other candidates, could not run for election in July.
FIFA had originally given Sudan an August 15 deadline to re-run the vote.The standoff could affect Sudan’s opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo on September 3.
"The football association yesterday received an extension until the end of August," Sports Minister Hajj Majid Suwar told Reuters.
In June FIFA threatened to expel Nigeria after President Goodluck Jonathan banned the national team from playing any international football following the country's first-round exit at the World Cup in South Africa.
