Sahara ends interest in Liverpool takeover

Sahara India Pariwar, the Indian business conglomerate with holdings in finance, media and consumer products, said it won’t bid for English Premier League club Liverpool.

Sahara was reported as one of five interested parties looking to take over the club which also include Chinese Kenny Huang, Syrian Yahya Kirdi, the Kuwaiti Kharafi Group and US private-equity firm Rhône Group.

“The deal for acquisition of the Liverpool Football Club was in our consideration in the recent past,” Abhijit Sarkar, Sahara India head of corporate communications at, told Bloomberg.

“However, after considering all related factors, we have decided not to go ahead with it, at least for the time being.”

It is understood Liverpool is asking potential bidders to prove they can come up with the money to buy the 18-time English champions before the club’s board meets on August 12.
