Volkswagen to help German Open go green

Car maker Volkswagen has signed up as the Premium Partner of the German Open Tennis Championship, to be held in Hamburg this week.

The company will provide the tournament with a shuttle fleet equipped with its eco-friendly BlueMotion technologies, contributing to the organisers’ pledge to turn the German Open gradually into a carbon neutral event over the next years.

Additionally, Volkswagen will have an information stand where it will give presentations about innovative propulsion technologies with lower carbon emissions and advice on how to incorporate environmentally conscious actions into the everyday life.

“Volkswagen with its BlueMotion vehicles is helping make this year’s tournament as environmentally friendly as possible. Plus we take a big step to be able to hold a carbon-neutral German Open in the future,” said tournament director Michael Stich.

The German Open was a Masters Series event until 2009, when it was downgraded to an ATP World Tour 500 level to make room for Shanghai among the ATP Tour top tier, now rebranded Masters 1000.
