On Saturday, BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) authorised board president Shashank Manohar to initiate legal proceedings against Modi for causing financial losses to cricket’s governing body in India.
Modi’s lawyers suggest that BCCI has already made up its mind to condemn the IPL commissioner, citing media reports where Manohar and other board officials are quoted.
They also point to the BCCI president’s remarks at a press conference after the SGM, when he said that the “standard of proof required in disciplinary proceedings and civil and criminal cases are different. In a disciplinary committee, even on a probability, one can hold somebody guilty”.
Modi - suspended from his role as commissioner since he started being investigated for a series of financial wrongdoing allegations - also questioned the inclusion of Chirayu Amin, who was twice unsuccessful in acquiring an IPL franchise.
