MasterCard strikes deal with Saudi football league

MasterCard has agreed a three-year sponsorship deal to become the Saudi League official card with exclusive rights in the financial services sponsorship category, starting from the 2010-11 season.

The agreement is the first partnership of MasterCard with an Arab Asian football league and extends the company’s involvement with football worldwide.

“This is a strategic collaboration with MasterCard, which is renowned for its international football commitment and long standing association with some of the world’s most famous football events including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and CONCACAF Cup,” said Mohamed Al-Newaser CEO of the Saudi Professional League Commission. “This sponsorship agreement demonstrates the attractiveness of the Saudi league to a leading multinational company like MasterCard.”

“MasterCard understands that football is a huge passion for the people of Saudi and we are therefore looking forward to working closely with the League as they continue to drive and enhance the football experience for Saudi football fans,” added Raghu Malhotra, general manager Middle East (Gulf Countries), MasterCard Worldwide.

The league expects that MasterCard’s support will strengthen the participating clubs’ competitiveness, encourage grassroots development, and enhance the experience for the fans. The company will have extensive on-ground branding in each of the 182 Saudi League matches per season.
