NFL licences online rival for Madden computer game

American football league the NFL has licensed an official online computer game to Quick Hit Inc, creating a rival for the successful “Madden NFL” game it has licensed to Electronic Arts since 2004.

Quick Hit's game, “QUICKHIT Football”, will be free to play and will generate revenue when users buy add-on features, Bloomberg reports. The US market for purchases within free-to-play online games is worth $836 million, and expected to rise.

Electronic Arts' Madden NFL has sold 85 million units worldwide and generated $3 billion in revenues to date. It is played “offline” on computer consoles like Sony's playstation, and on personal computers.

“There hasn’t really been a true football experience for a NFL fan who is looking for an alternative,” said Jeffrey Anderson, chief executive at Quick Hit.
