Revamped NFL draft hits all-time viewer high

US sports broadcaster ESPN drew the biggest audience in the 31-year history of the National Football League's draft for this year's edition.

The draft, in which the 32 NFL teams pick from the newly eligible college players, this year expanded from a one-day to a three-day format, and had its first three rounds aired in prime time across April 22 and 23. The seven-round event was concluded on the afternoon of April 24.

ESPN had an average 3.7 million viewers for its first 14-and-a-half hours of coverage on ESPN and ESPN2, a 27-per-cent increase on the 2009 draft.
