United fans anger at away ticket charge

The Independent Manchester United Supporters’ Association (IMUSA) has described the English Premier League club’s plans to charge fans for the right to apply for away tickets as a “cynical” move.

After freezing season ticket prices for next season, United is considering scrapping its loyalty scheme for away games and charging £20 for the membership of a travel club.

“Supporters would be paying £20 for what would feel like a one-in-50,000 chance of getting a ticket,” IMUSA spokesman Mark Longden told UK newspaper The Guardian.

The club’s 15-member official fans’ forum will discuss the idea in a meeting today with chief executive David Gill.
