Clubs in Germany’s top division made an average of €6.3 million from shirt sponsorship, a five per cent rise on the previous season. In contrast, Premier League team revenues from shirt sponsorship fell 10 per cent to €4.8 million.
The betting and energy sectors emerged as the top sponsors, taking over the position occupied by finance companies. According to the StageUp figures, the energy sector invested €33.8 million in four German clubs this season.
"Despite the global financial crisis, shirt sponsorships in Europe's five top soccer divisions retain a great appeal for investors," StageUp said.
Italy's Serie A remains third, Spain's La Liga comes in fourth (but with the biggest revenue increase in percentage terms), followed by France's Ligue 1 in fifth.
