Both teams will be touring the country, with Celtic facing English Premier League club Manchester United and Rangers expected to play exhibitions in Miami and New York.
A US-based company believes the match could fill the 68,750 seats of Massachusetts Gillette Stadium, home to American football team New England Patriots, and where Celtic drew against Major League Soccer team New England Revolution in 2006 before 16,000 people.
A similar proposal was made to the two sides six years ago, with Australia as the host country, but no agreement was reached.
