Wasserman added to US World Cup bid

American sports agent Casey Wasserman has been added to the board of the US bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Wasserman represents several English Premier League players, including Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen, and brokered the £100-million naming rights deal for Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

“Due to its global reach and appeal, soccer has an unparalleled ability to embrace and connect fans from around the world, and I am truly honoured to join esteemed colleagues in efforts to return the World Cup to the US at a time when the sport can realise great benefits from our support,” said Wasserman.

The US bid committee also recently welcomed Douglas Band, counsellor to former president Bill Clinton, as a member of its board of directors.
