International experts discuss stadia in France

[Update: The conference has been postponed until May 18 and 19 due to the current flight ban in place over much of Europe]

Five weeks before the announcement of the host nation for Euro 2016, the French football community is hosting a conference to discuss the 12 stadia involved in the country’s bid.

The event, the second edition of ‘Stadiums, from conception to operation’, starts today and continues tomorrow at the Hotel Pullman Bercy in Paris. It will focus on how professional football clubs and their private and public partners can best operate their stadiums.

With more than two billion Euros expected to be invested in French stadiums (not including infrastructure costs) over the next few years, the French stadium market is one of the most important in the world for parties operating in this sector. France’s bid to host Euro 2016 has seen a major acceleration in stadium-related activity, generating 11 new construction or major renovation projects for French stadia, with supplementary projects under way in Le Mans, Le Havre and Valenciennes.

LFP president Frédéric Thiriez explains: “The 12 stadiums involved in France’s candidature, which represent investments of 1.7 billion Euros, will form the theme of the two days’ discussions, which I hope will be rich and productive for French football and beyond that for sport in general.”

The event is organised by the Professional Football League (LFP), the European Stadium and Safety Management Association (ESSMA) and the French Football Federation (FFF) and will cater to a full range of parties interested in the stadium market in France and Europe.

Attendees are expected to take in the seminars and exchange ideas with top French and international experts in areas as varied as financing, legal frameworks, sustainable development and stadium operation with real cases studies involving big European stadiums being examined.
