Engineering consultancy and programme management company CH2M HILL is Official Sustainability & Legacy Partner of the SportAccord Convention and is working with stakeholders to set performance-based standards and means to measure performance over the next two years, introducing event management measures in 2010 in Dubai to be built on for when the event visits London in 2011.
The ‘Ten Golden Rules’ offer basic recommendations on energy, water, waste, materials, biodiversity, environmental impact, inclusion, healthy living, procurement and transport. There will also be a conference session entitled 'Sport`s Role as a Leader in Sustainable Development' in Dubai.
“We are starting our journey in the area of sustainability with our partner CH2M HILL showing us the way forward,” said Anna Hellman, SportAccord Convention’s Executive Director. “This list of valuable suggestions in the Ten Golden Rules is an important first step on that journey.”
The new initiative includes practical steps during the Dubai Convention in Dubai where bags are made from 100 per cent recycled content and drinking fountains with real glasses for delegates. The Convention will also have a paperless media office (USB sticks handed out instead of paper).
