Hicks' Texas Rangers threatened with bankruptcy

MLB team the Texas Rangers faces bankruptcy unless the terms of a proposed sale by owner Thomas Hicks are improved or another buyer found.

A Bloomberg source said that a group of creditors is ready to block the planned sale of the team, to former player Nolan Ryan and a lawyer, as it wants to earn at least $30 million more out of the deal. The group could force the team into bankruptcy.

The Hicks-owned company that owns the Texas Rangers, Hicks Sports Group, defaulted on a debt of $525 million last year. It has been trying to sell the team for six months.

Hicks is also currently searching for a new owner for English Premier League club Liverpool, which he joint-owns with fellow US investor George Gillett.
