Korean Grand Prix denies cancellation threat

The organisers of the South Korean Formula One Grand Prix have denied a claim that their circuit will not be built in time for the inaugural race on October 24.

Autosport.com reports that they were responding to a comment by the circuit’s architect Herman Tilke in German magazine Focus, in which he said: “For the first time I fear that a [Tilke] circuit is not going to be ready in time.”

The race organiser, Korea Auto Valley Operation, told Autosport that construction of the track was actually ahead of schedule.

“The construction progress for our circuit is well ahead of its schedule and we have absolutely no issues with completion,” said chief executive Yung Cho Chung.

“I understand that Mr. Ecclestone is quite happy with not only the progress of the track but the direction the Korean F1 race is headed and he has raised no questions and concerns.”
