UK newspaper The Guardian reports that the extra payments are being considered as part of a package of financial support for clubs in the Football League, the three divisions below England’s top tier. The Premier League clubs will make a final decision on the package in June.
The parachute payments for relegated clubs go up from £12 million per year to £16 million per year this summer. The total value of the 2007 to 2010 financial support from the Premier League to the Football League was £90 million, including £5.4 millino for youth development.
