Classen takes new ESPN business development role

Sports broadcaster ESPN has promoted Charly Classen to be the new Senior Director of Business Development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and commercial director of ESPN UK.

In the new position Classen, who was previously ESPN’s Senior Director of Business Development for EMEA, will now additionally work on areas such as subscriber retention and acquisition, working with internal and external partners on channel pricing, packaging and offers. Classen will also evaluate programming and acquisition opportunities for ESPN’s UK channel.

Classen, who joined ESPN in 2006, has helped lead the broadcaster’s Cricinfo, Racing Live and Scrum acquisitions, and helped launch an EMEA version of the ESPN360 video player.

Prior to ESPN Classen was at FremantleMedia where he held the roles of VP Participation TV and Director of Business Diversification.
