EventScotland announces funding for 2014 celebrations

EventScotland, the national events agency, yesterday launched a fund to help organisations stage events in celebration of Scotland’s role as the host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The 'Games for Scotland' programme, funded by the Scottish Government, is designed to inspire, develop and support a range of exciting events and activities this autumn, marking the lead-in to Glasgow 2014.

Sporting and cultural events that are successful in the application for funding will deliver a celebration of contemporary Scotland and its place on the global stage.

"The Delhi Handover Ceremony in October will mark a special moment on the journey towards the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games," said Shona Robison, Minister for Public Health and Sport. "As part of our legacy plans we have made clear that we want all of Scotland to capitalise on this opportunity to host the biggest multi-sport event in our history.

"This fund, which will support a programme of events marking the handover and will inspire people and communities from across the country to get involved, firmly establishing these as a ‘Games for Scotland’."

The Games for Scotland programme will coincide with the handover of the Commonwealth Games flag in Delhi on the October 14.
