Garber revealed that an increase from one to two exemptions from the salary cap per team was discussed during negotiations with players last week, in which a new collective bargaining agreement was signed.
Garber believes that the change can be made as early as next week. Currently, every MLS franchise is allowed to pay one player from its own budget with only $400,000 counting towards the total salary cap.
“It is in all of our best interests to ensure that we have star players that can help drive interest in our league and grow attendance and ratings,” he said.
