The East London club - which lost 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers last night leaving them three points from the relegation zone - had previously criticised the organiser’s commitment to keep the athletics track after the Games, but now appears to have backtracked.
“We acknowledge the need for the stadium to host world-class athletics and so it should,” West Ham vice chairman Karen Brady said. “But it can accommodate football too - and a whole lot more. There has to be a way of achieving that.”
West Ham partnered with the Newham Council to outline a plan that would change the original plan of having the venue downsized from 80,000 to 25,000 seats. An Olympic visitor centre and a football museum will also be proposed.
