The Jockey Club said the appointment was done to bring further expertise from outside racing to the organisation, as part of its commitment to help horseracing reach new fans and showcase the value of investment opportunities.
Bowers, who joins on May 1, will be responsible for the strategic communications for Jockey Club Racecourses, Jockey Club Estates, the National Stud and Racing Welfare. His role will be primarily to increase the sport's attractiveness to consumers, sponsors and investors.
“Even with a very strong list of applicants for the role, Scott was the stand-out,” said Simon Bazalgette, The Jockey Club Chief Executive. “He brings broad experience of strategic public relations at the highest level across a range of sports, which will be invaluable to The Jockey Club as we take on the challenge of capturing a broader audience for horse racing.”
In his role at Weber Shandwick, Bowers helped Sochi win its bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and worked on international communications for the England 2018 football World Cup bid.
