Npower in £21m Football League sponsorship

Energy supplier Npower will replace Coca-Cola as the title sponsor of English football's the Championship, League One and League Two under a new £21 million, three-year deal.

UK newspaper The Guardian reports that the Football League turned down a bigger financial offer from the bookmaker Coral because it did not want to have a headline association with a betting company.

The Npower deal is worth £3 million more than the Coca Cola agreement which covered the past three seasons.

The new deal was negotiated by previous league chairman Lord Brian Mawhinney, who was last Friday succeeded by Greg Clarke.

Npower has also been announced recently as an official sponsor of England’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
