CIES recently launched a training course in sports strategy for public sector workers.
“A coherent, coordinated public sector sports policy can achieve extraordinary benefits, both economic and social,” said Denis Oswald, President of the International Rowing Federation, CIES Director and IOC Executive Board Member. “Any sport that can become an integral part of such a strategy will surely benefit as well.”
Oswald said CIES's new course represented a “welcomed step in the growing professionalism of the public sector’s approach to sport”.
The course, which takes place in Neuchâtel, Switzerland on May 16 to 22 this year, will cover topics such as: evaluating the benefits and costs of sports events; building effective partnerships between international federations and cities; funding models and policies for sports performance; city marketing and place branding through sport; improving health through sport; and the role of urban regeneration.
There are 25 spaces on the course. Registration is now open online at www.cies.ch.
