According to Bloomberg, Woods is pictured with Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy on the cover of the game, which is scheduled to be released on June 8.
Electronic Arts, the world’s second-largest video-game company, said the decision was made in October and is unrelated to Woods’s admission of marital infidelity.
“There’s obviously a natural tendency for everyone to assume as such, but that absolutely wasn’t the case,” EA spokesman Rob Semsey said. “The things that transpired after the fact, that had nothing to with the focus of the cover.”
In January the company said it would maintain support of Woods despite companies such as AT&T, Accenture and PepsiCo’s Gatorade all ending their sponsorships.
The latest version of the game is the first to feature the Ryder Cup, the biennial golf tournament between the USA and Europe. The ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour’ series has sold more than 25 million units since its release in 1999.
