After clashes between Paris Saint-Germain fans and the national team’s defeat at home to Spain, secretary of state for sports Rama Yade called for a restructuring of football in the country and criticised national team manager, Raymond Domenech.
“We must review all the organisation, review operating procedures and rebuild a team. We should have changed the manager after the fiasco at Euro 2008,” she said.
French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes replied to the comments calling for “less interference and more support” from the government, explaining that the team need serenity for this year’s World Cup and that changes of management and structure will only be implemented after the event in South Africa.
“It isn’t for nothing that I went to South Africa to make sure we have the best preparation and that we’re bidding for Euro 2016.”
Escalettes also vowed to see through his mandate until the end of 2012.
