Rangers open to takeover bids

Scottish Premier League champions, Glasgow Rangers, have confirmed owner Sir David Murray is considering selling the club.

London-based property developer Andrew Ellis, a former director at English Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers, is understood to be fronting a list of three candidates.

An independent committee of directors has been formed to assess any possible offer.

“It is particularly important to the independent directors that any possible bidder is able to demonstrate the capacity and commitment to provide a stable and sustainable future for RFC,” read an official statement.

Rangers owe £31 million and have not bought players since 2008. Despite recently posting a £13 million profit in the six months to December 2009, manager Walter Smith and assistant Ally McCoist have been working without contracts since the start of the year.
