Event impact-measuring tool launched for UK events industry

A new 'toolkit' aimed at anyone organising events in the UK has been created by a group of leading event industry experts, including UK Sport, Event Scotland, the London Development Agency, the North West Development Agency.

The eventIMPACTS toolkit is a website which tells how to measure the impact of an event in the media, on the economy, socity and the environment. It was launched yesterday at the Legacy Lives event in London.

The impact of six UK events in summer 2008 were analysed to produce the guidelines:the Internatinoal Rugby Board Under-20 Rugby World Championship in Wales, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the World Pipe Band Championships and Piping Live!, both in Glasgow, the BUPA Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield, the Tour of Britain Finale from Blackpool to Liverpool and the London Freewheel cycle event.

Paul Bush, chief operating officer at EventScotland, said: “Working towards the creation of an industry standard for major event impacts is hugely important for the continued development of the UK’s events industry. When we understand the benefits and their value, we can better measure the industry as a whole and harness its power for the advancement of the economy, the environment, our international profile, our position as a tourism destination and for long term social change.
