Jordaan: South Africa will trounce Germany World Cup revenues

This year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa is set to generate the highest commercial revenue ever for the event, at $3.5 billion, some $900 million up on the Germany World Cup in 2006.

Danny Jordaan, CEO at the Local Organising Committee made the claim, speaking at a lecture organised by the Royal African Society in London.

Jordaan also assured that the event will be delivered within the $423-million operating budget.

“That requires very, very tight control, a few fights along the way,” he said.

However the stadium construction budget might have overrun, with reports stating that Soccer City, venue for the opening game and the final, cost $133 million more than the initial estimate of $291 million.
